About Us
Jack's, formerly known as Wayne's, The Boxford Store, Boxford Community Store, or Boxford Community Kitchen, has stood as a cornerstone of Boxford for over 180 years. Originating as a carpenter's shop off Herrick Road in 1834, it relocated to its present site in 1839, transforming into a general store.
Under various ownerships, it found its legacy with Jack and Jane Johnson in the mid-1940s. Renowned in the town, they provided not just goods but also a hub for community interaction. Over time, the establishment expanded, transitioning from a general store and gas station to a coffee shop and eventually a full-scale restaurant.
In 1978, Jane Doughty Merrill and her husband Wayne took the reins, overseeing expansions and transformations, including the incorporation of a bank and post office. Following Wayne's passing in 2019, Dave Merrill and his wife Kara assumed ownership in 2020, rebranding it as the Boxford Community Kitchen.
Their vision expanded the offerings, introducing a wider variety of dinner options and extending business hours. Together and with the anticipation of the fourth generation's involvement, the legacy continues to evolve.
This enduring legacy, spanning three generations and over 75 years in the Johnson-Merrill family, remains dedicated to serving the Boxford community. We express our deepest gratitude for the support, loyalty, and patronage throughout the years.
Here's to many more years as your beloved community gathering place.
